Food Chemical Sensitivities
Natural food chemicals and additives can induce symptoms including headaches, urticaria, eczema, hay fever, rhinitis, asthma and gastrointestinal upset. In order to identify which food chemical or group of additives is contributing to your symptoms, an elimination diet is required. It is impossible to identify your chemical triggers prior to removing all potential culprits from the diet.
The elimination diet is based on research from RPAH. There are variations on how strict the diet needs to be depending on your symptom and diet history. The initial stage of a restricted diet is undertaken for 4-6 weeks. Once symptoms have resolved, a series of rechallenges are undertaken in order to determine which of the food chemical groups are causing the most problem. Then our dietitians will assist in fine tuning the approach for the longer term.
