Sports Nutrition

Nutrition during sport and activity plays many differing roles, and is often related to the performance of an athlete. Important factors include the type, timing and quantity of fluid and food taken by an athlete, along with nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, supplements and the macronutrient spread of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Athletes across all types of sports training regimens may benefit from a sports dietitian consultation, in particular those in strength sports (such as weight lifting and bodybuilding) and endurance sports (for example cycling, running and swimming). The nutritional needs of an athlete are not only affected by the sport they are involved in, but also their gender, weight and height, activity stage (pre-workout, intra-workout, and recovery), length of activity, and time of day.
